Cultural Heritage in Digital Europe: the Mundaneum takes part in the debate!

The Mundaneum joins representatives of the civil society, of libraries, of publishers and of the European Commission for a public debate on the issue of knowledge dissemination in our digital society.

European cultural heritage is unequivocally rich : museums, libraries, archives centres, those institutions play an essential part in our society. The « digital revolution » poses new challenges to the cultural world now facing technical and contractual barriers to the digitalization, access, use and reuse of works. Now that a reform of European copyright laws is planned, many institutions ask for an adaptation of the international legal framework in order to continue their work in education,  researcha and content diffusion in a digital environment.

European Deputy Julia Reda (Verts/EFA, Pirate Party) initiates a cycle of public events around this copyright reform with a conference titled « Cultural Heritage in a Digital Europe », where the Mundaneum will naturally be present.

The announced speakers :

  • Delphine Jenart, Deputy Director of Mundaneum
  • Anne Bergman, Director of the Federation of European Publishers (FEP)
  • Stuart Hamilton, International Federation of Library Associations and Institutions (IFLA)
  • Maria Martin-Prat, European Commission, DG Internal Market
  • Paul Keller, Kennisland / COMMUNIA / Europeana
